Privacy Policy
Version 1.0 · Effective Oct 9, 2026
Legal review required. This document is a template prepared for the VulaSocial Africa node and must be reviewed by a qualified legal professional in the relevant jurisdiction (South Africa) before go-live. Nothing here is legal advice.
1. Data we collect
We collect the information you provide at registration (display name, email address, password hash), optional profile information (bio, avatar, date of birth, interests), content you publish, messages you send, and basic device/network metadata such as IP address and user agent for security and rate limiting.
2. How we use data
We use your data to operate the service: posting content, delivering messages and notifications, matching you through FriendFinder only if you opt in, and keeping the network safe from abuse.
3. Federation warning
This is a federated network. Public content may be copied to other servers that we choose to federate with, and those servers operate under their own policies. Do not publish anything you are not comfortable being public.
4. Cookies
We use minimal, session-based cookies required for authentication and security. See the Cookie Policy.
5. Third parties
We use hosting infrastructure and optional services described in the Cookie Policy. We do not sell your personal data.
6. Your rights
You may access, export, or delete your data at any time from your account. You may withdraw consent to FriendFinder matching at any time.
7. Data retention
We retain your personal data for a maximum of 60 days after account closure, unless we are required to keep it longer for legal or security reasons. Profiles, posts and messages may persist while your account remains open for the purpose of operating the service; if your data has not been backed up via LOLA or similar means by go-live, it will be purged after 60 days.
8. Contact
For privacy enquiries contact the node administrator. This document is a template requiring review by a qualified legal professional in South Africa.
